How I Became a Pressure Washer in Wolverhampton

Me with Joseph

I’d like to share how I got here – what shaped me, and how I became one of Wolverhampton’s recognised exterior cleaners.
This is an honest look back – not the polished version, but the real one.

Early Beginnings

I’ve been fascinated by machines for as long as I can remember – cars, motorbikes, robots, anything mechanical.
I must have been around six years old when my uncle bought himself an old pressure washer.
The moment I saw it, I said I wanted to try it.
Surprisingly, he said yes – and it felt absolutely incredible to use it for the first time.
Even as a child, I managed to wash an entire car on my own.

Back then, I had no idea that one day I’d earn my living using a much more powerful machine.

From Factory Work to Realisation

As the years went by, that childhood memory faded.
I grew up, and like most people, had to start earning a living – unfortunately, not as a business owner, but as an employee.
I worked in several factories around Telford and across the West Midlands.
I always did overtime, tried to save what I could, but I was never truly satisfied.
The work was tough, often under difficult conditions, and there was always pressure to meet targets.

Then one day my stomach started to hurt.
At first just a little, then worse with each passing day.
It went on for almost a year until I could no longer work and finally had to see a doctor.
I’ve never been the type to visit doctors, but after a few tests, I needed surgery.

During a conversation with my doctor, it became clear that my health problems were most likely caused by stress.
That was the turning point when I realised – I didn’t want to be an employee anymore.
I didn’t want to live my life following someone else’s plan.
I wanted to follow my own path.

First Impressions Count: Why Professional Pressure Washing Is Essential for Businesses

Pub Cleaning from www.balojetwash.co.uk Pub Cleaning from www.balojetwash.co.uk

1. A Clean Exterior Builds Trust

Before a customer even steps inside, they’ve already formed an opinion based on what they see outside. A clean shopfront, spotless windows, and tidy paving create a strong first impression and show that your business cares about quality. On the other hand, a dirty, stained, or mossy exterior can put people off – no matter how great your products or service might be. With professional pressure washing, all visible grime, algae, and chewing gum are blasted away, leaving your premises looking as good as new.

2. Fast and Effective Cleaning

Manual scrubbing and mopping can take hours and rarely deliver the same results. High-pressure cleaning is not only faster, but also far more thorough. Using industrial-grade equipment, we remove deep-seated dirt, oil stains, graffiti, and organic buildup in minutes. Whether it’s your shop entrance, car park, or signage, pressure washing restores surfaces to a like-new condition without delay.

3. A Cleaner Space Elevates Your Brand

Your premises reflect your brand. A clean, well-kept exterior tells customers you’re organised, detail-oriented, and professional. Especially in busy areas or competitive high streets, appearances matter. Regular exterior cleaning can help your business stand out from the crowd, showing customers you take pride in your environment – and in their experience.

Transforming a Sutton Coldfield Driveway: A Genuine Case Study by Balo Jetwash

Let’s be blunt—driveways in Sutton Coldfield, like much of the UK, face a losing battle against the weather. The famous Midlands drizzle and ever-damp air aren’t just good for gardens; they practically invite moss, algae, and stubborn stains. It’s no surprise that, after a few winters, your driveway starts looking a little worse for wear—slippery, green, patchy, and not exactly the sort of thing you want greeting guests or passers-by.

But does hiring a professional driveway cleaner actually deliver, or is it all hype? At Balo Jetwash, based right here in Sutton Coldfield, we believe in cutting through the sales talk and being straight with people. Here’s an honest, warts-and-all case study of a recent driveway cleaning job in our area—real problems, real results.

The Client: Sutton Coldfield Home, Real Issues

Our client lives just outside the town centre, in a classic Sutton Coldfield semi, with a well-used block-paved driveway. Like many locals, they’d watched the surface become steadily greener and more slippery, especially in the shadow of a couple of old sycamores. No shortage of DIY attempts—scrubbing, hosing, trying supermarket moss killer—made much difference.

They were, understandably, sceptical. Their first question? “Will it actually look new again?” If you live in Sutton Coldfield, you’ve probably wondered the same. The honest answer: not every driveway can be made to look as it did the day it was laid. We set realistic expectations—cleaner, safer, fresher looking? Absolutely. Flawless? No promises.

Inspection: Looking Past the Surface

Arriving on a damp Thursday (surprise, surprise), our first job was to get a proper look at what we were dealing with. Ten-year-old block paving, typical for Sutton Coldfield, complete with the usual: moss in the joints, black spots (lichen) here and there, oil stains from the car, and a few blocks coming loose at the edges. Poor drainage near the garage meant standing water and even more moss.

When it comes to keeping your roof clean and protecting your home from long-term damage, homeowners are often faced with a common dilemma: Should you choose roof pressure washing or roof scraping?

At BALOJETWASH, we specialise in professional roof pressure washing, and in this article, we’ll walk you through the key differences between the two methods, so you can make the best choice for your property.

🧼 What Is Roof Pressure Washing?

A Lovely Elderly Couple’s Driveway is Gleaming Again

Before Pressure Washing

A kind client of mine recommended their neighbour, who reached out to me wanting their driveway cleaned. According to the homeowner, they also had a pressure washer, but it was clear that their machine wasn’t powerful enough to achieve a proper clean.

Once we agreed on the price and the date for the work, I turned up as arranged and got the job done. As you can see from the photos, the surface was quite discoloured, with dirt and grime settled deep within the gaps of the block paving. The job was made trickier by the fact that the entrance area had a large overhang, making it harder to clean.

Fortunately, within less than an hour of my arrival, I had the driveway looking spotless. Using a high-pressure washer, I removed the algae, moss, and various stains that had built up over time. To ensure long-lasting cleanliness, I then treated the surface with an industrial-grade cleaning detergent, which helps maintain the driveway in perfect condition for longer.
